CHEDEVILLE-CADET
(1705-1782) was a French composer and oboist, who on his mother's side was related to the well-known flutist Jacques-Martin Hotteterre, who introduced him to Paris with his two brothers. Nicolas and his brother Pierre appeared as publishers of various works, including "Les Amusemens de Bellone" from 1735, a collection of works for musette, violin, flute and oboe. Shortly after the release of Vivaldi's Op. VIII (including the 4 Seasons) Nicolas published 6 concerts named "Les Saisons Amusantes" in an oboe version. In order to lend the work the pastoral character that was popular in France at that time, he integrated flute and hurdy-gurdy into the accompanime 14
nt parts.
His compositions never seem complex or overloaded, but always sound light-footed and elegant, without being banal. Especially the different forms of dance of this time form beautifully in this small, originally composed for flute sonata, in which one can gradually work from the lighter to the more complex and virtuoso sentences.
All saxophonists with more than one year of (more) experience on their instrument will find here an ideal introduction to the baroque world. Starting with the minuets with a moderate tempo over the middle phrases up to the fast-paced Gigue makes also the slow playing of the individual sentences lots of fun. However, if you need it harder, you can also choose faster tempos to play at level 3. In general, the upper voice likes to go to the third position, but without overburdening the dexterity of the interpreter.
