"Leaving yourself to the blues is certainly nice sometimes, but boring in the long term" means JOE DEGADO . "So maybe you start thinking, reflect on a few things, check your inner positions, maybe even break new ground. As one or the other may have already thought: I also know the Sunday Afternoon Blues. And one day, in the midst of my tribulation, a simple little tune came to mind, fittingly a blues-lick. From the lick to the complete tune it was a short way, but a 12 -stroke blues theme did not seem to completely exhaustive represent the above-outlined intellectual dispute process. Thus, the piece eventually developed into a more detailed affair, which could not be packaged in one sentence. There were 4 movements, in which that simple little melody always represents the central motif, which probably should not be completely obvious in the second and third movement, at least at first hearing. Anyone who feels inspired by the composition to continue thinking about the piece may do so. Everyone else should just play it."
In full length, including the notated solos, the piece is certainly not suitable for beginners. But even the less advanced can do something with the piece, because there are plenty of built-in abbreviations and simplifications. Although the piece is written for quintet, it can also be played by a quartet (AATB). In order to comfort all the second tenorists, who feel now superfluous, the quintet version is even richer and more colorful. And another advantage for student quartets: Tenor 2 is made for teachers who can not play during the rehearsal, but then at the gig.
