This composition by Theodor Köhler
represents a (successful) attempt to connect contemporary music for a solo saxophonist with romantic music for violin and orchestra. This idea became a compositional approach and is also evident in the choice of the title.
So this combines the word saxophone with the name of the spanish violinist Pablo de Sarasate, the next to Paganini the most important violinists of the 19th century. Even today, his compositions are still important examples of brilliant virtuosity; some small quotes can be found in these five movements by Theodor Köhler.
