According to the physical order of the overtone series, the fifth is the “other” tone closest to the fundamental tone after the tone repetition through the octave.
In the following exercises, the fifth is understood and used as an interval for opening up an open melodic and harmonic space. The exercises in this book serve both to expand technical playing skills and to further develop an inner conception of contemporary melodic line formation.
The exercises contain suggestions for expanding technical playing skills into a tonal range that exceeds the conventional range of the saxophone register.
