Derek Edward Healey (born May 2, 1936 in London) is an English composer, organist and music educator. His more than 50 published works include orchestral and chamber music pieces, an opera and several organ and choral works.

Làrus goes to Far Rockaway is in three sections, the first commences with a calm shakuhachi-like phrase centering on the pitches D and E, and which is continually interrupted by six different seagull cries transposed several octaves lower, most of these cries are derived from an E flat seventh cord and are mainly those of the Herring Gull. The following section develops the opening figure and gradually intensifies to a include three multiphonic cords – two loud, one soft. The last section is a faster 5/8 dance with a trio section in 5/4. The coda combines material from the second section, including the multiphonics, the gull-cries and the dance melody. The work, which ends loudly, was completed on May 10 th 2006.
