Contrary to the notion that improvisation is something purely intuitively spontaneous, it consists rather of recalling, combining and varying what has previously been learned and is thus similar to learning a language with its grammar and vocabulary. In the first volume you playfully developed forms and rules using the blues as an example. In Volume 2 you will now find all the important jazz scales and chords clearly sorted by key and each one with exercises that invite you to improvise.
A fascinating musical macrocosm in which you can either move step by step and key by key in the usual systematic way or browse creatively as you please. From the modes in major to harmonic and melodic minor to pentatonic and altered, Stephan Mattner guides you safely through the jungle of jazz scales with his exercises and rounds off his innovative learning concept. The theory part is deliberately kept clear, so that you can playfully learn all the important tools for improvising, and you will be accompanied by a real jazz trio on the accompanying playalong CD. This is learning to improvise systematicly!
