Score and Parts
The Première Fantasie originale pour saxophone baryton mi b et piano was composed by Mayeur in 1877 for Monsieur Hernandez - Saxophoniste - Professeur de Musique à la Republique Argentine, Amerique, to whom Mayeur also wrote his first very successful fantasia for alto saxophone and piano (also for instrumental accompaniment) in 1869
set by him) about Le Carneval de Venise based on the opera of the same name by Ambroise Thomas.
In Argentina, playing the saxophone was already being taught at the university in 1869.
The Première Fantasie originale pour saxophone baryton mi b et piano owes its title to the fact that Mayeur composed the theme himself.
It remained the only fantasia on its own theme – and also the only one for baritone saxophone: he wrote all the other fantasies for alto saxophone on operatic themes.
