Score and parts
Gradec means "Graz" in Slovene and probably in all Slavic languages.
The reference to Gradec is omnipresent: The main theme arose from an improvisation in the backstage area of the Graz Stefaniensaal before a concert.
Most of Preinfalk's Graz students, for whom he wrote this piece, come from Slovenia.
The microtonal secondary theme was premiered in octaves by an Austrian and a Slovenian, the saxophone orchestra supports the soloists in many colors.
A special feature is the last part, where the background of the improvised soprano saxophone solo lies on chordal surfaces, on the other hand is generated by percussive sounds up to a pulsating groove by hitting the reed with a fingernail.
