Derek Edward Healey (born May 2, 1936 in London) is an English composer, organist and music educator. His more than 50 published works include orchestral and chamber music pieces, an opera and several organ and choral works. In his piece Contradanse, the composer – now living in Brooklyn – lets the often neglected outside voices of the saxophone quartet soprano and baritone saxophone enter into a dialogue, combining their beautiful melodic communication through the piano - a beautiful piece of neo-romantic music that is not too technically complicated leaves plenty of room for personal interpretations!
