Score and parts
The twelve studies for saxophone quartet by Uwe Kremp , written between March and July 2019, can be performed in any selection and order. In the case of an overall performance of all twelve pieces, however, the cyclical arrangement specified here should be taken into account. Developing dramaturgically convincing concepts for the partial performance of selected pieces is, on the other hand, a matter for the respective interpreters.
The title of the collection, which is borrowed from a novel by Jean Paul, refers to a baroque colourfulness in stylistic and character terms as it also characterizes the novels of this great writer. From a musical as well as a technical point of view, different aspects of the quartet playing are therefore addressed in the individual pieces. Followers of avantgarde purity laws are likely to be annoyed about these studies or simply ignore them. The composer is confident, however, that many a saxophone lover will consider her as a welcome enrichment of the repertoire instead.
